Discover more about our knitting shop in Perranuthnoe

The home of Cornish Wools and our knitting shop is in the gallery of Village Crafts in the historic village of Perranuthnoe, near Penzance in Cornwall. Village Crafts first began in 2004 in one of the converted barns on the Lynfield Craft Centre where since then we have supported and sold the work of over 90 local artists and craft workers. On display are original paintings, photography, pottery, jewellery, books, wood art, felted work and lots more.

Then in 2008 our textile gallery was opened, initially with the restoration of an ancient counter balance loom, which is now all ready to warp up and get weaving. Since early 2009 we have hosted regular spinning and weaving group meetings and workshop days and we now have Ashford wheels and looms, locally crafted drop spindles, pencil roving, carded bats and other accessories for sale.

Also in 2008 we produced our very own knitting yarns from local sheep fleece, which is very exciting and quite a process, beginning down on the farm with the sheep at shearing time to placing the finished ball of wool into a basket in the shop.

Then came the Perranuthnoe ‘Sea Knits’ knitting group every Wednesday afternoon in the Gallery with tea and cakes, which is lots of fun. Coming from Perranuthnoe, Penzance, Newlyn, Ashton and Praa Sands and with varying degrees of knitting skills, from beginners to professional we make an interesting group. You are welcome to drop in a join us if you are in the area, we would love to see you.

Our knitting shop has evolved over the time, with our own local Cornish yarns together with branded yarns from Sirdar, Lang, Bergere de France, Sublime, Schoppel Wolle and Alpaca Select and more in the future. We also have an ever increasing range of accessories, including Pony and Addi knitting needles.

Cornish Artisan is our latest addition, produced by us in our Perranuthnoe dye workshop, a range of yarns dyed in the most amazing colours using mostly natural and some synthetic dyes. As we are only a few meters from the sea and beautiful beach our work is inspired by the colours and calming yet exhilarating feel of the Cornish landscape, cliff tops and wonderful sunsets.

Why not come and find us in Perranuthnoe? We would love to see you and for you to visit our shop and gallery. Come and see our range of knitting wools and accessories, the spinning and weaving corner and all the inspiring crafts and gifts on sale. And then why not visit the local pub, the Victoria Inn for a local beer and choose from their widely recommended menu or take a break in the café for a light snack. Bring the dog and your boots and walk the cliff paths to Prussia and Cudden Point to the East and Marazion and Penzance to the West, just wonderful walking. Or just stay a while on the Craft Centre we are waiting to meet you and make you welcome.
